That’s something I always want my couples to think about: How does your day move?

Because at some venues, it can feel like a lot of stopping and starting. Here, it flows. You can move from getting ready, to ceremony, to cocktail hour, to dinner without it feeling like a reset every time.

My biggest advice for Greengate? Use the space to tell the story of your day!

Start somewhere calm and hidden away for getting ready. Let your ceremony have its own moment (as it should!). Then shift into something more open and social for cocktail hour and dinner. You don’t have to cram everything into one spot, and you shouldn’t here. The variety is what makes it feel dynamic and lived-in.

If I had to describe this venue in the way that it feels in a couple of words, I’d say this one feels like a deep breath.

Higuera Ranch is quiet, grounded, and just really comforting to be in. You’re surrounded by oak trees and an olive grove, with this historic barn that’s been there forever, but it doesn’t feel “old” per se, but more so lived-in. Warm. Like a place that’s held a lot of really good moments over time, and you’re adding to them.

The layout here is simple. Nothing feels complicated or over-designed. Your ceremony under the Higuera tree (which… is kind of the star of the show), then wandering into the olive grove for photos, and easing into dinner and dancing by the barn as the light softens. It’s so dreamy. 

My biggest advice for this space? Don’t overcomplicate your day. I know I keep saying this… but it’s because it really matters here. This is one of those venues where less truly is more, and the more you try to layer on top of it, the more you risk missing what makes it feel so special in the first place.

You don’t need a packed timeline or a million moving parts to make it feel special here. This venue already has such a strong sense of place, so the more you let it be what it is, the more your day will feel natural and meaningful.

And then there’s the staying on-site part… which I will always, always recommend if it’s an option! Being able to turn your wedding into a full weekend is a must. It feels less like an event and more like something you actually get to live in. Plus, the homes here are so beautiful and cozy, which just adds to that whole “we’re all here together” feeling.

Summer is when San Luis Obispo really comes alive! The hills turn that signature golden color, the weather is consistently warm, and the entire area has an easy, social energy. It’s beautiful, but also the busiest time of the year. 

If you’re planning a SLO wedding in the summer, expect higher demand for venues and vendors and more tourists and traffic.

Ceremonies are usually best later in the day when the light softens, and the heat eases up.

Fall (September-November)

Fall is one of the most loved times for weddings here, and I get it.

The weather is still warm, but without that intense summer heat where everyone’s lowkey melting by ceremony time. It’s comfortable in a way that lets you really enjoy being outside all day.

The vineyards start to shift during harvest season too, so everything feels a little richer, a little moodier, a little more grounded. It photographs beautifully!

And selfishly… this is my favorite time of year for light. The sun lingers just enough that you’re not rushing through portraits or squeezing everything in.

Winter (December-February)

Winter is so underrated here and lowkey one of my favorite vibes if you’re wanting something a little more quiet and intentional.

Everything starts to turn green again, the crowds thin out, and the whole place feels softer and more private. It naturally leans more intimate without you having to try.

Yes, you might get cooler temps or a bit of rain, but if you’re open to that, it creates such a cozy, romantic atmosphere. Think slower mornings, layered outfits, maybe a glass of wine under a covered patio while it drizzles a little, it’s a whole mood.

My biggest tip? Lean into the season instead of fighting it.

Have a backup plan you actually like, bring in textures (blankets, heaters, candles), and let the day feel a little slower and cozier. That’s where winter weddings really shine.

Also, this is the time when planning tends to feel way less chaotic. More vendor availability, more flexibility, and overall just less pressure. If you’re not into crowds or peak-season energy, winter might be your sweet spot!

Paso Robles runs noticeably hotter than the coast. A venue 30 minutes inland can feel completely different than one closer to the ocean.
